Warne would quit for children

Champion Australian leg-spinner Shane Warne said he will quit the game if his three children do not cope with his pending divorce from wife Simone.

Coming off a year where Warne broke the world record for Test wickets in a calendar year, Warne told News Limited he would retire if his children Brooke, 8, Jackson, 6, and Summer, 3, find it too difficult when the divorce is finalised.

"If they start to get affected then everything will stop," Warne said.

"I'd have to stop everything."

Warne has returned to Melbourne since the final day of the Sydney Test match against South Africa (Australia won the series 2-0) to spend quality time with his childen.

The flamboyant Victorian took 14 wickets in the series, but unlike his form with the bat in last year's Ashes where he was pushing all-rounder status, he averaged just 9.5 runs in the lower order against the Proteas.

Warne will now take time off in the the next few months, having retired from one-day cricket with Australia, until the national side tours South Africa in March.
