Second NZ v West Indies Test Drawn, Series Ends 0-0

The second and final cricket test between New Zealand and the West Indies ended in a draw at McLean Park here today.

Set 312 for victory, New Zealand were 220 for five when play was called off with nine overs remaining in the final session.

Jesse Ryder was unbeaten on 59, his fourth test half century, and James Franklin was on two when the umpires called off proceedings with New Zealand 92 runs short of their victory target.

Chris Gayle was named man of the match for his 197 in the West Indies second innings. Bowler Fidel Edwards took career-best figures of 7-87 in New Zealand's first innings.

New Zealand bowlers Iain O'Brien (6-75) and Jeetan Patel (5-110) also recorded career best figures for the hosts while Tim McIntosh, playing just his second test, crafted his maiden test century, 136, during the first innings.

The first test in Dunedin also ended in a stalemate after more than two days were lost to bad weather.

A two-match Twenty20 series starts on Boxing Day in Auckland, with the second match scheduled for Hamilton two days later. A five-match one-day international series starts in Queenstown on New Year's Eve.
