Proteas claim series win

Graeme Smith scored his second half-century of the match to help his South Africa team complete a four-wicket victory over the BLACKCAPS at The Wanderers to seal the series 2-0.

Daniel Vettori recorded 60 as the tourists accrued a competitive 283 in their second innings at the Johannesburg ground.

However, the Proteas captain bettered his first innings knock of 63 by five runs to push his towards their target of 217, mustering partnerships of 69 with Boeta Dippenaar (37) and 51 with Hashim Amla (28).

The BLACKCAPS refused to yield without a fight, taking Dippenaar and Smith in the afternoon before at the Jacques Kallis (13) were dismissed just before the tea.

AB De Villiers and Mark Boucher were claimed after the interval, with James Franklin claiming three in the innings and six in the match.

Chris Martin and Kyle Mills both bagged a brace, but the team could not recover after a solid start by their hosts.

The victory was completed by Ashwell Prince, who made 43, with Shaun Pollock (6) striking a four to win the match and the series.

Earlier, the Kiwis had been bowled out midway through the morning session. Resuming on 214 for six, progressing well as Vettori helped his side to a 200-plus lead.

Jacob Oram (27) was removed by Dale Steyn, who took four for 91, before Pollock bowled Franklin for 19 and, in the next over, Andrew Hall accounted for Vettori and Martin in successive deliveries .

Hall, Pollock and Kallis all finished with two wickets each. Makhaya Ntini could not tally, but was consoled as the Proteas took the season-ending series 2-0.
