Hoggard injures hand

Matthew Hoggard has given England another injury scare with the swing bowler involved in a freak accident at training.

Hoggard required two stitches to his right hand after fellow Yorkshire pace bowler Tim Bresnan stepped on it during the warm-up before England A's match with Pakistan.

He is not expected to bowl during the match and is now in doubt for the first Test against Pakistan at Lord's next week.

Hoggard joins a growing list of injured players for England with skipper Michael Vaughan (knee), quicks Simon Jones (knee) and James Anderson (back) and spinner Ashley Giles (hip) all currently unavailable.

England's squad for the first Test will be named on Sunday.
