Australia score first in Rose Bowl ODIs

Australia have defeated the WHITE FERNS by seven wickets in the opening Rose Bowl ODI at Allan Border Field.

Scorecard

Sophie Devine’s WHITE FERNS were inserted by Meg Lanning on a fresh strip but couldn’t put an imposing total on the board.

The innings started well for the visitors with a breezy 19 from Natalie Dodd including her first international six.

However, a large clump of wickets in the middle stages of the innings reduced them to 83/6.

That brought Maddy Green (35) and Katie Perkins (32) together, the former domestic team mates putting on 62 for the seventh wicket, Green showing her power with three straight sixes.

Some late hitting from Hayley Jensen (21) ensured the bowlers had something to defend at the innings break.

Unfortunately for the WHITE FERNS, openers Rachael Haynes and Alyssa Healy started well, putting on 41 for the first wicket.

When Healy departed for a run-a-ball 26, Meg Lanning (62*) took over for the home side, her calm head ensuring they got home in the 34th over.

The teams now look ahead to ODI 2, played at the same venue this Monday.
