Raroa Normal Intermediate 118-5 (J Wilkinson 48) beat Saint Kentigern Boys’ School 78 all out of 12.2 overs (B Thurlow 3-9), Lincoln Green
St Kentigern have suffered their first defeat of the week courtesy of Raroa Normal Intermediate. St Kentigern won the toss and decided to bowl, Raroa’s opener James Wilkinson put on a valiant 48 off 31 balls, he was also helped by fellow opener Harrison Faulkner 29 runs helped anchor Raroa to 118 runs after their 20 overs. Benjamin James was the pick of the St Kent’s bowlers taking 2 for 14. Raroa continued their batting form with the ball, as they bowled St Kentigern out for 78, winning the game by a convincing 40 runs. Stand out bowlers for Raroa included Boston Thurlow (3-9), Taka Craigie (3-13) and Alex Vanucci (2-19).
Balmacewen Intermediate 111-7 (T Miller 33) beat Tauranga Intermediate (U Kumar 52, L Barron 4-15), Lincoln No. 3
Just 8 runs separated both teams, with Balmacewen Intermediate claiming victory in a high scoring match. Balmacewen’s middle order guided them to 111 off 20 overs, Luke Marsh (24) and Tom Miller (33). Tauranga’s bowling attack did take some key wickets to minimise what could have been a much higher total, they were lead by Josh Espitalier (2-26) and Lachlan Balfour (2-20). Another solid knock for opener Utsav Kumar (52), which included 7 boundaries, couldn’t quite elevate Tauranga over the line. A middle order collapse didn’t help Tauranga chase down 112 runs despite Andrew Friskney making 20 off 26 balls to give them a glimmer of hope. Liam Barron was the pick of the Balmacewen bowlers taking an impressive 4-15 of his four overs.
Huntley Intermediate 160-1 (M Hocquard 72*, M Florence 50) beat Breens Intermediate 141 all out off 16.5 overs (F Bainbridge 61, H McVerry 5-10 (including hattrick)), Bert Sutcliffe Oval
Huntley have put in a strong performance to fend off a spirited Breen’s intermediate side. Huntley batted first making a massive 160 while only losing one wicket. Matthew Hocquard’s early round form continued as he belted 72 of 59 balls, his fellow opener Matthew Florence made a half century only to be run out with 5 overs to go. But Huntley’s big total didn’t seem to phase Breen’s, despite falling 19 runs short, they showed they are capable of scoring runs. Flynn Bainbridge had another solid innings scoring 61 of 32 balls and T Langdon making a quick fire 27. However, Huntely bowler Harry McVerry had a fantastic spell which ultimately hurt Breen’s taking 5 wickets for only 10 runs off three overs including a hattrick and four wickets in his final over. McVerry’s late heroics secured the title for Huntly School.

Raroa Normal Intermediate 76 all out after 14.2 overs (M Sherriff 3-13) Lost to Huntley School 79-2 from 8 overs (M Hocquard), Bert Sutcliffe Oval
Huntley School made light work of Raroa Intermediate at Bert Sutcliffe Oval this afternoon, chasing down their target in just 8 overs. Raroa were bowled out for 76, Boston Thurlow and Taka Craigie top scored with 18 runs each, Huntleys bowlers made it easier for their batsmen by restricting Raroa into a low total. Harry McVerry (2-22), Taka Craig (2-16) and Monty Sherriff (3-13) came off with the best figures out of the bowlers. Matthew Hocquard stared again at the top of the order for Huntley, making 43 off 25 balls before being run out. It was a challenging afternoon for the Raroa bowlers as Fletcher Stevens was the only wicket taker.
Tauranga Intermediate 127-4 off 15 overs (U Kumar 58, L Spargo 39) beat Breens Intermediate 92 all out off 13.3 overs (J Frost 43, H Candler 3-5), Lincoln Green
Tauranga have put their round one loss behind them and have come back strongly in their second round clash with Breens Intermediate. Breen’s sent out early warning signs in the first round with a solid batting display but it was all Tauranga this afternoon at Lincoln Green. Tauranga got off to an electrifying start, Utsav Kumar smashing 54 off 39 balls and his opening partner Luke Spargo scoring 39 to eventually give Tauranga’s bowlers 127 to defend. Breens Intermediate got off to an ominous start with their top order batsmen Jacob Frost (43) and Flynn Bainbridge (26) steering them in the right direction. Once they fell, Breens middle order failed to follow suit. Tauranga’s bowlers were superb in limiting Breens to 92 runs; Hohepa Chandler stared with the ball taking 3-5.
Balmacewen Intermediate 79-5 of 15 overs (Z Cumming 44, ) lost to Saint Kentigern Boys’ School 80-4 off 9.2 overs (E Hall 32, H Wilson 2-23), Lincoln No. 3
Saint Kentigern Boys’ School have made it two from two and sit top equal with Huntley school on the leader board after beating Balmacewen Intermediate. Zac Cumming top scored for Balmacewen putting on 44 but unfortunately, the middle order failed to fire. In a game affected by rain, St Kentigerns took three wickets and restricted Balmacewen to 79 runs off their 15 overs. St Kentigerns made light work of that total, Ethan Hall featured with the bat scoring 32 runs, which would be crucial in guiding his team to victory. Balmacewen battled hard and captured four Saint Kentigern wickets, Hamish Wilson stared with the ball ending the game with figures of 2-23.

Saint Kentigern Boys’ School have made light work of Tauranga Intermediate in their opening match after comfortably chasing down 72 runs. St Kentigern’s bowling attack were very economical in limiting Tauranga to 72 runs, Joseph Baker (2-7) and Brendan Meyer (2-5) stood out with the ball. Luke Spargo topped scored for Tauranga with 26 runs and Lachlan Balfour made what would be an important 18 runs, but the rest of Tauranga’s middle order collapsed. St Kentigern’s openers made little work of the run total, Cody O’Shanassy (33) and Ethan Hall (22) top scoring and chasing the total down with 10 overs to spare.
Balmacewen Intermediate 109-4 (H Wilson 35, M Hocquard 3-9) lost to Huntley School 113-7 off 18.3 overs (M Hocquard 81*, L Barron 3-6), Lincoln Green
Balmacewen Intermediate have come up short in their opening round after posting a competitive total. Balmacewen put 109 on the board thanks to Hamish Wilson top scoring with 34 runs and opener Zac Cumming scoring 19 off 20 balls. Huntley didn’t help themselves in limiting Balmacewen total, gifting them 24 runs in extras. Matthew Hocquard was impressive with the ball ending the game with figures of 3-9. Hocquard would play another outstanding role with the bat scoring 81 of 54 balls, hitting 15 boundaries. With six of his other batsmen all scoring ducks, Hocquard anchored the innings and steered Huntly to an opening round victory sharing a final wicket partnership with Angus Pearce of 46 runs to secure the victory. A mention also has to go to Balmacwen bowler Liam Barron who ended the game with impressive figures of 3-6.
Raroa Normal Intermediate 130-6 (H Faulkner 55, N Murphy 2-13) lost to Breens Intermediate 131-2 off 16.3 overs (C Stewart 52, F Bainbridge 47*), Lincoln No. 3
Breens Intermediate have sent a strong warning sign to their fellow competitors after seamlessly chasing down an impressive 130 runs posted by Raroa Normal Intermediate – while only losing 2 wickets. Raroa’s Harrison Faulkner scored a brilliant half century but his middle order crumbled. Cameos from Raroa’s tail enabled them to post 130 off their 20 overs. Nevertheless, Breens Intermediate chased that down in 16 overs, captain Connor Stewart steered his side to victory making an impressive 52 off 47 balls and first drop Flynn Bainbridge finished the game on 47 not out. Raroa’s bowling attack of Harry Law and Alex Vanucci claiming a wicket a piece.
