Raf Nicholson hopes female cricketers will have role models of their own gender in the not too distant future:
The hope is that in ten years' time we'll have female captains of England, New Zealand and Australia who were inspired into the game by one of those contracted players, who once showed up at their school and let them see that women can play for their country as well. The hope is for a process that shows all national cricket boards the value of promoting their women cricketers, giving them the same profile granted to their male counterparts, and giving girls, like their brothers, something to aspire to.
Stomach churningly, Monty Panesar broke BLACKCAPS fans' hearts by keeping out Kane Williamson and Trent Boult at the end of that third Test at Eden Park. If it's of any comfort, he did the same to Australia, with Jimmy Anderson, in 2009.

But in the internet, cricket has found the perfect tool to take the game to supporters. Instead of watching while those supporters use the internet to innovate, it's time that cricket itself started to take the lead.
Mike Mason's phantom IPL call up was our favorite yarn this week:
Mason and former Central Districts team-mate Peter Ingram had a few days' relaxation in New Plymouth last week and knocked back a few rums.
So yesterday morning Mason sent Ingram a message: "What did we do? I'm sure I can remember everything."
